The Met turns 2

Plus, Punks for a Princess
By PROVIDENCE PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  September 4, 2012

Last call for a "World Music Party" at Fête (401.383.1112) on THURSDAY (the 6th) led by Boston's KLEZWOODS (CD release), THE SOMERVILLE SYMPHONY ORKESTAR, and more. On FRIDAY (the 7th), get to Nick-a-Nee's and catch THE THROTTLES rocking hard free-of-charge (401.861.7290), and a happy 2nd anniversary to the Met (401.729.1005), celebrating with DAN MILLS, TRAILS, and former 'BRU Rock Hunt champs FAIRHAVEN; all-ages and $10 at the door (401.729.1005). On SATURDAY (the 8th), start the day at Goddard State Park with SPITSHINER, THE DOLL EYES, OC45, and THE McGUNKS headlining the family-friendly punk-rock BBQ, with proceeds helping out the Punks for a Princess foundation. Some local legends out and about on Saturday: MARK CUTLER & MEN OF GREAT COURAGE hit the Roots Café (401.272.7422), and DAVE HOWARD joins NEIL VITULLO & THE VIPERS at the Narragansett Café (401.423.2150). A busy weekend at the Met continues with JOE FLETCHER & THE WRONG REASONS (absolutely abuzz since their killer set at the Newport Folk Fest) with special guests COYOTE KOLB and THE SILKS; it's the best sawbuck you'll spend all weekend. And get back there SUNDAY (the 9th) for the weekly RI Legends Jam with SUPERCHIEF TRIO & friends starting at 4 pm (no cover). Also on Sunday, MARITIME PILOT (former members of Cali Smile, Acariya, and Nature/Nurture) pulls into Fête with BENT KNEE and SOMETHING ABOUT HORSES; and if you're kicking around downtown, head to Local 121 and check out WILDER MAKER (21+, no cover, 401.274.2121). On WEDNESDAY (the 12th), Dusk is the place to be for Metal Night, hosting HERUGRIM, RITUAL OF ODDS (from Greece!), and AMADIS, all for just $3 at the door. And next THURSDAY (the 13th), kick back at the Ocean Mist with the DENNIS McCARTHY BAND (no cover, 401.782.3740).
