Sibilance
By PORTLAND MUSIC STAFF  |  January 21, 2009

• We know everyone's geeked up about that big rock photography exhibit at the PMA (congrats to MARK BESSIRE for getting that PMA gig, by the way — the "Sibilance" staff knows him for a music fan), but be sure also to check out an exhibit of local-rock photos by JOHN FAHNLEY that opens at the ADDISON WOOLLEY GALLERY on January 22. You might know Fahnley from his work with JOE S. HARRINGTON on the book Sonic Cool and the local rock mag Kapital Ink, or you might just know him because he's been kicking around the scene for decades. Called "It's Only Rock and Roll (But I Like It)," the show's a must-see for local-music fans.

• Oh, by the way, that's PETE DUBUC that's in GUNTHER BROWN. We referenced Pete Bolduc last week. He's a guy who owns a farm up in Poland. Don't ask.

COHESIVE, a radio-rock outfit from Lyman, have recently moved out to Los Angeles to make their fortune. Looks like things are going well so far: In November they took home a LOS ANGELES MUSIC AWARD for their single, "To the Stars." It's a pretty nice tune, like Rubyhorse, say, with a big singalong chorus and shimmering guitars. We say continued good luck to them (and remember us when you're famous).

• This Saturday at Slainte, ISOBELL play their first show as part of a four-band bill with GO BUTTON, the CLASS MACHINE, and FULL CONTACT KITTY. Ponomo honcho and designer HANNAH TARKINSON fronts the band, so you know they've got style.
