The first-ever Best Music Poll awards party came to life at Brighton Music Hall emceed by DJ Paul Foley with Bodega Girls as the house band plus an all-star cast of Boston music heroes including Bill Janovitz, Peter Wolf and Amanda Palmer.

It was the first time the Boston Phoenix hosted an awards party for its 23-year-old Best Music Poll, but what erupted June 15 at Brighton Music Hall was a drunken shitshow that honored decades of Boston rock and roll, and was capped off by the Bruins' first Stanley Cup championship since 1972.

A handful of Phoenix readers questioned the parameters of what exactly defined a "Breakthrough Act" in our recent Best Music Poll, decided in dominant fashion by alt-rock quartet SEXCoffee. What exactly constitutes a band playing together for six years as finally "breaking through?" Well, it isn't titled "Best "New" Act," if that helps.
