Why?
Because of the number 98.
That would be the percentage of Maine residents who are white.
I know race was only one factor in the rankings, and I know Maine voters narrowly shot down laws to allow same-sex marriage (which still irks me), but that means that the whitest state in the nation wasn't anywhere near the end of the list.
What that means to you, I can't say. But it means to me that I have another reason to be happy to live here.
