My nightmare, too

Letters to the Portland editor, April 2, 2011

It is about time this state changed and LePage is doing everything he can to get this state out of the Dumpster. Non-citizens don't deserve health care; they need to work first, pay their dues, and not bottom feed. (See "Progressive Nightmare," by Deirdre Fulton, March 18.) It doesn't make any sense that a person who moves here from abroad can expect to immediately get benefits and be supported by welfare. That is why LePage cutting welfare is great! If an American went to another country, don't you think we would save money and have a job lined up before moving?

Paying taxes to support non-citizens is not right. The left-thinking people of Maine are stubborn and that is what has caused this state to become one of the worst in the country, especially economically. We don't support big business and it is killing us. Big companies don't want to come to a state that has the worst tax consequences. I support the organic and small-business economy, but we are going too far and not finding the balance. It is awful that I am a young professional and need to look for work out of state for a second time.

The fact that bikers are getting their own lanes in the middle of the road is ridiculous. I am a biker and always stay on the sidewalk when I can. They don't follow the rules or laws, so why do they get all this freedom?
