Do the fight thing

By CHRIS FARAONE  |  August 10, 2011

In his turn defending "good, decent, dignified jobs," Massachusetts congressman Bill Keating harnessed the spirit, pulling a loose union tee down over his snug polo shirt. A rookie lawmaker in Washington, Keating expressed extreme dissatisfaction with inaction in the nation's capital, offering words that, while meant to hype the telecom crowd, summarized sentiments that have been brewing all throughout New England this summer, and that finally erupted in the streets last week.

"Working and middle-class people are under attack," said Keating, a former Norfolk County district attorney whose powerful podium poise fit right in with the bombast of his bullhorn-happy labor comrades. "[Congress] is just kicking the can down the road. Instead of finding solutions, they're kicking middle-class Americans down the road."
