A big thumbs up on your recent article in the Phoenix! (See "Eating, My Words," by Deirdre Fulton, December 28, 2007.) I was on the bus from Bangor to New York City last week, and during the brief stopover in Portland picked up the paper. Your write-up on eating less meat in the new year was very refreshing to see.
My wife and I made that same new year's resolution back in late 1993 and haven’t eaten meat since. Knowing that we are using far less resources, contributing far less to global climate change, have removed ourselves from the road to heart disease and cancer, and are each sparing the lives of at least 90 animals per year, every year, is a fantastic feeling! We feel better than ever.

I saw the article yesterday (see “After a Lull, Portland’s Spoken-Word Scene is Getting Loud,” by Deirdre Fulton, December 28, 2007).
I hope it receives as much attention as the effort invested. I recall attempting to deluge you with as much information as possible, plus Nate Amadon contributed as well. I thought the article was insightful and balanced the enthusiasm of Port Veritas and its mission with interesting back stories, history and quotes from the audience.
Well done! And thank you. There is a lot of soul expressed in the swells and harbors of Port Veritas. It’s a wonderful moment when a window is opened to all that light. Sean was especially moved when he read the article.
