Mistral’s mashed-potato-and-beef-tenderloin pizza
Nice as pie
BY LARYN IVY

Despite its reputation as one of the hippest restaurants in town (complete with the requisite aloof hostess in a little black dress), Mistral offers grilled pizza with mashed potatoes on its appetizer menu. You’ll also find beef tenderloin on the same pie. It’s hard not to be intrigued by this strange but sublime creation. The crisp, paper-thin grilled crust is the perfect canvas for the tender beef carvings, spoonfuls of creamy mashed spuds, and sweet caramelized onions. Top it off with a decadent drizzle of white-truffle oil, and you’ll never think of pizza the same way again.

At $18 a pie, this probably isn’t the pizza to order when the guys are coming over to watch a game, but it’s the perfect indulgence when stepping out with friends to toast good news over a bottle of your favorite bubbly.

Available for $18 at Mistral, 223 Columbus Avenue, in Boston. Call (617) 867-9300.
