Audubon Circle’s tomato bisque and grilled cheese
Childhood incarnate
BY TAMARA WIEDER

Much as you sometimes hate to admit it, you’re a grown-up. And fun as adulthood can be, it also means Mom isn’t cooking much for you anymore — at least, not on cold, snowy afternoons, when what you’re craving more than Chinese take-out, leftover pizza, or microwaved burritos is a bowl of tomato soup and a buttery grilled-cheese sandwich.

Fret no more: take Mom off the speed dial and head to Audubon Circle. For a mere $7.50, you can get that most classic combination: a big, shallow bowl of tomato bisque with a grilled-cheese sandwich resting on the plate beneath. The sandwich may not come with its crusts removed, but you’re a grown-up now, remember? Our only complaint is that the sandwich just isn’t big enough; soup remains, prime for dipping, long after the final cheesy bite has been taken.

But it’s a small price to pay for such culinary nostalgia. And aside from Oreos and milk, we can’t think of a better combination.

Available for $7.50 at Audubon Circle, 838 Beacon Street, in Boston. Call (617) 421-1910.
