" BATTER UP! "
Stealing home
BY MIKE MILIARD

Whatever happens with the Red Sox this postseason, baseball will live on through October at the Rice/Polak Gallery on Newbury Street. "Batter Up!" — the stirring visual tribute to the national pastime that ran last month at Rice/Polak’s Provincetown location (See "Batter Up!" This Just In, News and Features, September 9.) — now moves to Boston, a little closer to Fenway Park.

In addition to works by painters Steven Skollar and Bill Ciccarielo, photographers David Prifti and Christine Triebert, and sculptor Lavern Kelly, the exhibit features Charles De Simone’s sought-after portraits. These trompe l’oeil renderings, each graced with the player’s actual autograph, pay tribute the careers of the game’s greats, including Olde Towne Team titans Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, and Dom DiMaggio.

"Batter Up!" hangs at the Rice/Polak Gallery, 222 Newbury Street in Boston, from October 7 through October 30. There will be a reception on Friday, October 14. Call 617.262.5300 or visit www.ricepolakgallery.com.
