Thanksgiving treats in clubland

After spending Thanksgiving gorging yourself on turkey, mashed potatoes, and all manner of high-calorie treats from candied yams to kaleidoscopic Jello molds, you should have energy to burn. So before you gear up for another round of festive overconsumption and holiday-themed reverie, it’s the perfect time to get out and move your body. Here’s a selection of parties and events at clubs around town during the coming week, with an emphasis on invigorating homegrown beats.

Start with the ultra-caloric sounds of electro, crunk, and disco on Saturday (November 24) when Basstown Productions hosts local producer PROFECYR (a/k/a Greg Cyr) at Great Scott in Allston. Profecyr is best known for his remixes of M.I.A., Vitalic, and the like. (You can check out some of his remixes at his MySpace page.) He’ll be joined by Basstown resident DJs ETAN, DIE YOUNG, and MISTAKER as well as former Phoenix columnist and current Weekly Dig arts editor DAVID DAY.

Those who don’t stray far from Comm Ave can hear newly local DJ CHRIS DEVLIN of Spank Rock fame (he also has a monthly residency at the Milky Way) when he opens for the frenetic, Casio-fueled duo DEATH SET at Great Scott on Tuesday (November 27). If you have a hankering for the dirty sounds of hip-hop and Baltimore club, this should do you up a treat.

For a little Boston bounce by way of Buenos Aires, drop by Enormous Room on Monday (November 26) for DJ REFUSENIK at Beat Research. Although the Russian-born Refusenik now calls Argentina home, as a long-time resident his musical roots are in Boston. Expect an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink mix of dancehall, electro, grime, and all things bass. (Check this column on-line for a link to his latest, “Kold Krussian Mix.”) Beat Research residents WAYNE&WAX and DJ FLACK will hold things down for the home town proper.

On Wednesday (November 28), the monthly dubstep night Bassic returns to the Good Life for more serious London-style woofer wobbling. In October, the folks at Bassic brought in Baltimore’s Joe Nice, who spun an earthshattering Halloween set. This month’s installment features New York’s DJ CLEVER (of Offshore Recordings) and Bassic resident DAMIAN behind the decks. With two subwoofers working overtime in the intimate confines of the Good Life, your body is sure to get a workout even if you’re standing still.

Since 1999, the pre-eminent spot to hear the knife-edged breaks of drum ’n’ bass in New England has been the Elements weekly at the Phoenix Landing hosted by resident DJs CROOK and LENORE. Next Thursday (November 29) is the Dynamic Audio Launch Party with the local duo FACTION, of the region’s only d’n’b record shop, Trainspotters. The Phoenix Landing has one of the best sound systems in town, so if this doesn’t get you moving, you may be beyond hope.

Also on Thursday, and just across the street in Central Square, Make It New at the Middlesex continues to celebrate reaching the ripe old age of three by bringing a bit of Glaswegian techno to Cambridge courtesy of producer ALEX SMOKE of Soma Recordings. (You can hear some of his elegant mixes on his MySpace page.) Smoke’s music combines grime, minimal techno, and dub. Resident DJs BILLY KIELY and BALTIMORODER will keep the home fires burning.
