Coralcola at Great Scott; Damian at Elements

In March of this year, a series of MP3s by an unknown techno producer named CORALCOLA began circulating among a few DJs and bloggers around town and beyond. Before long, there was more than a wee bit of buzz swirling about the Worcester-based artist. No mean feat given that these were the first tracks to see the light of day.“I’ve been messing around with electronic music for a few years now,” the pseudonymous Coralcola explains, “but I’d never really let anyone hear anything outside my bedroom walls before I posted those tracks up on MySpace."
This Saturday, Coralcola will take one step farther from the safe confines of home when he makes his live debut, opening for Swedish techno producer extraordinaire the FIELD at Great Scott. It’s an auspicious match, since Coralcola’s use of lush melodies and glitched-up loops (particularly on a shimmeringly euphoric track called “Heath Ledger”) has led more than one perspicacious blogger to compare him to the Field. Saturday’s show marks the beginning of what looks to be a busy summer for the young Coralcola, with more live shows and a pair of EPs in the offing, so keep your ears peeled and your eyes glued to his MySpace page.
If you’re looking to speed up your pulse after the inevitable æthereal overload of the Field and friends, the following Thursday the long-running and deservedly beloved drum ’n’ bass weekly Elements, at Phoenix Landing, could be just the thing, with frenetic beats and bountiful bass. The June 12 edition keeps it local with DJ DAMIAN SILVA of Soundbox Presents, the sub-loving folks behind the Seismic dnb and Bassic dubstep monthlies at the Good Life.
