Unsexy Appeal

PLACEHOLDER POLITICS
Regarding “Murph’s Last Grasp?” (March 26): when Sam Yoon and Michael Flaherty ran in the last Boston mayoral contest, they both showed courage by stepping down from their City Council seats to seek higher office. Steve Murphy, on the other hand, shows his total lack of stones by holding on to his, which means he has nothing to lose. This isn’t the first time he’s pulled this scam on the taxpayers!

UNSEXY APPEAL
The annual “Unsexiest Men” survey (April 2) panders to and cultivates negative, cheap-shot male bashing. It is an indulgence of psychological immaturity. That there isn’t a companion “Unsexiest Women” list also demonstrates how this type of mindset exaggerates and distorts the polarity of the sexes.

I don’t know who came up with the idea to compare James Cameron’s appearance to that of an old lesbian, but I recently bruised some ribs playing old-man hockey and was doubled over in pain I was laughing so hard.

While looking through your “Unsexiest Men” list, I noticed your mention of Nick Jonas. Basically, you’re saying that he is not sexy because of his personal beliefs, plus the fact that he named his band Nick Jonas and the Administration. The fact that you are calling him unsexy because of those reasons is completely unfair.
You may think I’m just some kid writing to you because I love Nick Jonas. But you are wrong. I’m doing this to defend someone who is getting picked on for his values and lifestyle choices, which is absurd.

I would like to add my voice to the many that have found this supposed attempt at humor to be in extremely bad taste. This is what sells as “funny” now, is it? Taking potshots at people who have attempted to commit suicide? Unnecessary at best; purposely hateful, cruel, and basically just evil more likely than not. Personally, I think the article should be removed from your online content and an apology to your readership should be provided. But that is just one opinion, albeit one I think the majority of your readers (and definitely the majority of decent people) would tend to agree with.
