Spiritus Pizza

After a day on the beach and a night on the dance floor, who doesn't need a little time to decompress? In Provincetown, everyone seems to decompress at the same place: Spiritus Pizza. In a shingled building right on Commercial Street, Spiritus does triple duty: by day, it's an ice-cream shop and coffeehouse; in the wee hours, it's a focal point for everyone trying to figure out what the night, you know, meant.

Inside, it's all very P-town, with a ceiling fresco of angels and devils and little puffy clouds. The walls host rotating art exhibits. The staff and customers share easy banter as people come and go; the real crowds don't start till 1 a.m., after all the bars close. The pizza -- cheese, pepperoni, and Greek -- costs $2 to $2.50 a slice; whole pies start at $12.50. The ice cream is good stuff (Emack & Bolio's, Häagen-Dazs) and costs about two bucks a scoop. There's cappuccino, espresso, and regular coffee; tables outside and in.

Spiritus Pizza, located at 190 Commercial Street, in Provincetown, is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Call (508) 487-2808.
