Where to stay
Provincetown is peppered with guesthouses, B&Bs, and motels, but they fill
up in the summer, so be sure to call ahead.
For a memorable romantic experience, venture just over the border on Route 6A
to South Hollow Vineyards Bed and Breakfast, in North Truro. The only
traditional winery on Cape Cod, the 150-year-old inn is surrounded by five
acres of hills and vineyards. It has five bedrooms, all with four-poster queen-
or king-size beds and private baths. Rooms range from $89 to $129 in summer;
they cost considerably less in the off-season.
If you're looking for simpler accommodations, a good bet is the Cape Colony
Inn, at 280 Bradford Street, in the East End of Provincetown. This is a clean,
welcoming motel with an inviting outdoor pool; rooms are priced from $85 to
$102 in the high season. You can walk or bike to the center of town in
minutes.
The Best Western Chateau Motor Inn, nestled high in the woods at the end of
Bradford Street overlooking the West End, is private, comfortable, and close to
the center of town. Rooms cost about $160 during the height of summer.
For the adventurous visitor, there's a really affordable way to go:
Provincetown and Truro have several privately owned campgrounds. North of
Highland Camping Area, in North Truro, costs $36 for a two-night stay. You'll
need all your own gear, but the woodsy sites have showers and restrooms on the
premises -- and the beautiful Head of the Meadow beach is just a short walk
away.
