Celeb sighting: up close and personal

BY JOCELYN BRICK-TURIN

THURSDAY, July 29, 2004 Though I’ve wandered the streets of the city in the limelight and been privileged to enter the DNC shrine fondly called the FleetCenter, I have been unable to differentiate the speakers’ messages from one another with the exception of Ron Reagan. I do understand there’s a Kerry bias in the air. I do not know what inspires LaRouche protestors to harmonize. But as a college student, the politics is less than half the fun. I’m here for the celeb-sightings!

Jerry Springer said hi to me, and ya know what? He’s a really normal guy. He looks exactly like he does on TV and he fit in almost surprisingly well with those not from broken homes, who are not incestuously inclined and who do conjugate verbs when they speak.

When Sen. Joe Lieberman shook my hand I was really flipping out. A real live guy from TV, the almost-vice-president of the United States touched me! He even asked my name and where I’m from, but turned away before I answered. Oh well.

Yeah, Bill Clinton lost 30lbs on South Beach but trust me, he’s not wasting away.

Gen. Wesley Clark may be at risk though. In person, he’s really little!

Sen. Hillary Clinton is elegance incarnate. Her style is impeccable, though I did notice her several-stranded pearl necklace was about an inch too long, letting her black crew-necked blouse peek out above the jewelry. So I guess she’s human too.
