THE LAST POST. Media Log made its debut in October 2002. I can't tell you what I wrote about, because the archives have been corrupted somehow. But I can say I've enjoyed taking part in the blogging movement and trying to figure out how this new type of DIY journalism can enhance and expand the role of a media critic.

The Phoenix's new media critic, Mark Jurkowitz, is planning to write some type of media-related blog, so please look for it on BostonPhoenix.com. I have no doubt that Mark will immediately establish an online presence that will make him a must-read.

I'm taking the summer off before beginning my new job this September teaching journalism at Northeastern University. If you'd like to know what my future blogging plans might be, please check in occasionally at DanKennedy.net.

What do you mean you are taking the summer off?
You get back to that keyboard you lazy bastard, and continue to write the stuff that has entertained me (us) for so long.
I look forward to Mark J. and trust he will do a great job.
But that doesn't allow you to dog it.

the first media critic i read, one of the only i checked every day. Thanks for your insightful blogging, hopefully you'll continue on in some fashion. I have no fear the new guy will rock some a$$, but we'd be doublely lucky to have you both blogging away about our current media.

Dan... You're the best....A good thing in discerning peoples' lives... You were a much needed tonic for the bile and deceit that issues forth daily, tainting our world.

It is truly a sad day for the blogosphere. I'm sure Mark will be great, but he'll never quite fill your shoes Mr. Kennedy! :-)

BTW - if you can, let us know if there's a way we can audit your journalism course(s). I have no idea how Northeastern exactly works with one-fer students (if at all) but I was just talking with my g/f this week about both of us taking some journalism or business writing courses; I need to brush up on my long-unused skills and she wants to learn how to write more concisely (and conveniently works in the Fenway :-)

Dan - I started reading your blog a couple of years ago by accident. After reading a particularly humorous McSweeneys.net piece, a Web site of which I have long since grown bored and which I no longer visit, I went online to investigate this "Dan Kennedy" character. This led me to your Web site and to your blog, and I've been hooked ever since.

Thanks for daily insights that have helped me to put current events in perspective in our tumultuous political and media landscape.

To all of you - I don't have access to your e-mail addresses, so I'll simply respond here. Thank you so much for all of your kind words. I really appreciate it, and it definitely gives me the impetus to get going with my own thing sooner rather than later.

BTW, in case anyone things I'm the McSweeney's Dan Kennedy ... no, no, no. I'm much better-looking. Funny, I lost interest in McSweeney's the very first time I started reading it. Must be a generational thing.

Anyway, soon you'll be able to read both Mark Jurkowitz and me online - two for the price of one.
