• Portland ex-pat RACHEL GRIFFIN continues to make her way in NYC. She's hooked on with BRUCE HORNSBY a little, and her first commercial single is "Losing Interest," produced by CHRIS GRIFFIN (no relation), who's also worked with the likes of KELLY CLARKSON, MADONNA, and KANYE WEST. Should be on THE Q any time now.
• The oft-rumored STEVE JONES career retrospective (1994-2010) is ready to roll from CORNMEAL RECORDS. With four new songs added to tracks from his two solo discs, the COMING GRASS work, and the BONEHEADS, the disc, titled Dreamer's Blues, will be released August 31. Look for a new solo work this winter, too.
• A stop in to TRISTAN GALLAGHER's toy shop on Congress Street elicited news that both MAN-WITCH and COVERED IN BEES are all done. CIB frontman BOO reportedly delivered a resignation letter that was pretty unequivocal.
• CHRIS TUTTLE died July 31 at the age of 62. He was a long-time bass player in local bands, including, the COBBLE MOUNTAIN BAND and the FABULOUS HEAVYWEIGHTS, and his most-recent project, the REELERS. He also was on DIESEL DOUG's first disc, An Angel, not a Saint, and played with CHADBOURNE BROTHERS BAND.
