KURT BAKER wrapped up recording a couple new original tracks with JONATHAN WYMAN last week, his first original work since the LEFTOVERS went on hiatus. He was backed by CRAIG SALA (PLANESIDE), KRIS RODGERS (GOODNIGHT PROCESS), JOSH MALIA (TAXIS, HI-FIVIN' WHITE GUYS), GEOFF PALMER (the GUTS), and MIEK RODRIGUEZ (HOLY BOYS DANGER CLUB). Doesn't really seem like that could go wrong. Check out the YouTube video blog the budding sit-com star (well, he should be) put together if you get the chance (youtube.com/kurtbakermusic).

• The "Sibilance" staff has to say that MATT NEWBERG's idea to play John Prine's self-titled debut album front to back in honor of its 40th anniversary is a great one. February 18 at SPACE.

• It's finally happened. RUSTIC OVERTONES have changed their name. Always a bit of an albatross around their neck, the name has long been rued by the band that are well into the second half of their second decade. Perhaps drummer TONY MCNABOE's move to California was the trigger, but when jazz drummer GARY GEMMITI plays his first gig holding down McNaboe's chair he will do it as a member of LOVE UNDERGROUND. Frontman DAVE GUTTER figures loyal fans will make the connection (it was the name of the third track on 2001's Viva Nueva) and jokes, "with tribute bands recently becoming so popular, maybe we can fool people into thinking they're going to see covers!" Kidding aside, the band are at least five songs deep into their next album, which would be their sixth.
