MAMM SLAMM winners

• The MODEST PROPOSAL won the MAMM SLAM on Saturday afternoon, earning a bevy of cool prizes, $1000 cash, and the chance to open for SPARKS THE RESCUE's CD-release show later that night. To prove this whole learning-ground-for-young-bands works, already on the undercard for the show were PHANTOM COMPANION, a group that went through the MAMM SLAMM process last year (back when it was called the Rock Off). Congrats to the MAINE ACADEMY OF MODERN MUSIC and executive director JEFF SHAW for continuing a truly special tradition in the Maine music industry.

• One-time southern Mainer ROD PICOTT is making his annual trek back to Maine in May (the 24th, at One Longfellow) to show off his brand-new Welding Burns, which we expect will be another grizzly and weathered piece of alt-country you won't want to pass by.

TORVA VOX, featuring some former AUDIOBLACK members, recently added ERIC RANCOURT, of HATCHETFACE AND THE VIPERS, to handle the drumkit. That ought to make a loud band louder.
