Ship of fools

We’re hearing some good things about the new one by the Mutineers, the eclectic string trio playing a country-style folk with nods to Delta blues and early folk traditions. The band released Leave it There this past month, their fourth full-length of lovely string ballads and rollicking old-time tunes played with a modern, fit-for-radio sensibility. Bandleader Stuart MacDonald just did a spot on WMPG’s early Friday morning Us Folk show, and the group nailed their record release at Frontier Café in Brunswick a couple weeks ago. | themutineers.com

Oh, good. Another Maine band with Bones in their name. Add the Royal Bones from Bangor, a lyrically driven pop-folk duo, to the musical crop of bone types that include Worthy, Tumbling, Other, and Old. Getting to be quite a body of work. | theroyalbones.bandcamp.com

Well, this is interesting. The new lineup for Wes Hartley and the Traveling Trees folds in some members of the raw punk band Mouth Washington, whose six-song EP Bronze Age released in June is a pretty glorious slab of loud, energetic post-hardcore indie rock. We’ll be eager to see how that plays with Hartley’s poetic, heart-on-the-sleeve country folk. We wrote about a slew of new solo releases Hartley dropped on the world a few months ago, and we’ll be on the lookout for appearances from this new outfit soon. | whattt.bandcamp.com

We’re always on the lookout for off-the-radar spots to see live music, so we were stoked to learn about live shows every Thursday at Urban Farm Fermentory, the East Bayside cultural hotspot and tasting room serving mead, cider, and kombucha made on-site. Expect that schedule to ramp up after Thanksgiving break, and look out for a CD-release party from the scorching blues-punk band Coalsack in Crux there Saturday, December 14, with the Video Nasties. | urbanfarmfermentory.com
