• Busy fall for CORNMEAL RECORDS. In addition to the STEVE JONES and BONEHEADS retrospectives, CHARLIE GAYLORD is also preparing the released of GREETINGS FROM AREA CODE 207, VOL. 8, which should be released November 12.

DANA GROSS, a/k/a D. GROSS, has a new full-length album, We Left the Roadside, ready for release on September 18 at One Longfellow. Word is you'll hear guitar, banjo, drum kit, upright bass, washboard, accordion, fiddle, tabla, keyboard, pedal steel, and harmonica.

• The same label, TOMPKINS SQUARE, that brought us that ROLAND WHITE re-release has released a cool project called Bloody War: Songs About War, Recorded 1924-1939. Produced by Grammy winner CHRIS KING and benefiting the Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America, it includes a tune about the battleship USS Maine. Old-timey fans should check it out.
