Notes on Street Dogs and Eli "Paperboy" Reed
By JIM SULLIVAN  |  March 4, 2008

Street Dogs

The STREET DOGS, fronted by former Dropkick Murphys singer MIKE MCCOLGAN, have signed to Hellcat Records, and they plan to release their fourth album this summer. They’ll be playing some of it during a spring tour with Anti Flag and on the multi-band Warped Tour. . . . JOHN CATE & THE VAN GOGH BROTHERS are celebrating their eighth CD, Wild Way, with a once-a-month Friday residency at Toad. They play March 7. . . . ELI “PAPERBOY” REED & THE TRUE LOVES’ first album for Q Division has moved to April 29. The young soul/R&B singer — born in Brookline, musically schooled in Mississippi and Chicago — plays SxSW in Austin next week. . . . SHEILA BOMMAKANTI plays spare, æthereal music under the name COBER. It’s a one-woman band: electric guitar and voice. She’s at the Plough & Stars March 11, and she’ll be back in the studio later this year to record her fourth album.

Dr. Lakra is no more a real doctor than is Dr. Dre or Dr. Demento. The 38-year-old Mexican tattoo artist’s real name is Jerónimo López Ramírez. As for “lakra,” it means “delinquent.” Or so I thought.
